In South Africa, Hydro is present as part-owner in aluminium extrusion operations and has upstream aluminium interests in the country.
Hydro owns a minority interest in Hulett-Hydro Extrusions (Pty) Ltd., based in Olifantsfontein. Hulett Aluminium was founded in 1954 by Alcan and joined forces with Hydro in 1997, when Hydro acquired 30 percent of the shares in Hulett.
The company operates three extrusion plants, located in Cape Town, in Olifantsfontein and in Pietermaritzburg. The plants serve primarily general extrusion customers.
