In the UK, Hydro is present with aluminium extrusion, building systems and precision tubing operations, and as a supplier of rolled aluminium and other metal products
Hydro has long traditions in the UK, starting in Bedwas, Wales, which is where the company built its first extrusion plant outside Norway, in 1971. The plant serves customers in the market for general extrusions.
Our other extrusion plant is in Birtley, near Newcastle. The two plants work closely together to serve customers throughout the country.
In Workington, Hydro produces aluminium precision tubing, mainly for global automotive customers. The Workington plant, founded in 1942, was taken over by Hydro in 1997.
Hydro also supplies fabricated aluminium products, rolled products, and is growing in the UK and Ireland as a supplier of extrusion-based building systems.
