Traditionally, heat exchangers in the HVACR industry are mechanically assembled. There is increasing interest, however, in brazed aluminium solutions - because they are better in many aspects.

Alloy selection has great importance when manufacturing an all-aluminium heat exchanger. Alloys should be chosen so that the tube material is more noble than the fin stock, resulting in a natural degradation in performance as the fin corrodes. This prevents the tubes from corroding and minimizes leakage from the system. Because the corrosion potential is much smaller, compared to the copper-and-aluminium solution, the degradation in performance is highly reduced with an all-aluminium heat exchanger.

Be aware that improperly matched materials could lead to tube leaks before a reduction in performance is visible to the end user. With our experience and specific knowledge about aluminium, we guarantee that you receive the right materials for all-aluminium heat exchangers.
Brazed heat exchangers
Brazed heat exchangers have better joint connections than mechanically assembled heat exchangers, making them more efficient. At the same time, the alloys for the heat exchanger components – header, fins and MPE tubes – need to be carefully selected to match each other for optimized corrosion protection. Suggested alloy combinations for low burst pressure and high burst pressure demands are given in the following tables.
* The post braze values depend on the brazing cycle. Note that fin and header material properties given are for the core material.
** Other header materials like AA3003 clad 4045 (10%) could be used, please contact us with your specific requirements.
