My job
Title/organization/location: Head of Production Systems, Primary Production Hydro
I have been working at Hydro for 12 years. When I started, I wanted to get production experience as quickly as possible. After different job assignments as a production manager I got the chance to work with improvement systems fulltime.
I work with developing a common production philosophy for Hydro’s production of aluminium, in cooperation with our plants in Norway and abroad. The job demands a fair amount of traveling and time at the plants. The development work involves people from all facets of the organization – from top managers to operators. It’s this kind of excitement that makes a production-related job more thrilling than a straight office job.

It’s fundamentally important to respect and have faith in the contributions of individuals in the organization. Scandinavia has an remarkably solid foundation of competence and high level of global competitiveness. Systematic development of our plants’ competitiveness demands continual evolution. Change management expertise is one of the most important parts of my job.
For anyone interested in this type of work, I strongly recommend prioritizing leadership experience in a production team. Working with operators is valuable to anyone interested in production. Production management skills are very important to have in staff and leadership positions in all industries.
