Namasivayam Muthiah-Selva

Technical Trainee, Electrolysis, Neuss, Germany

“I am a trainee with Hydro Electrolysis, based in Neuss, Germany.  I started off conducting analysis to help reduce energy usage in aluminium production.  Next, I got some experience working in logistics and then at a casthouse in Neuss.  Right now, I am at our research centre in Øvre Årdal, Norway for four months, doing research on emissions.  I have had an exciting experience in the trainee program and I am looking forward to going back to Germany, to take up a permanent position with our production team there.”

"The Hydro trainee program has been a very interesting and challenging journey. I began as an analyst in the Corporate Finance Risk Management.  I am now an economic analyst in Global Alumina and Smelter Growth, where I help to assess international business opportunities for the aluminium business.  By participating in the trainee program, I have gained broad work experience and knowledge of the industry – and the opportunity to travel abroad."

Øivind Moe Tangen

Technical Trainee, Physical metallurgy, Casthouse Department, Karmøy, Norway

"I’m very happy with my trainee program so far.  I’ve worked on very interesting tasks. The first few weeks in the job I got to learn more about the production process in the casthouse by working shifts: I got more production experience that way.  Now, I’m working closely with the research department, operators and others to improve the quality of the final product, extrusion ingots."
