Hydro holds a leading position in Europe in the remelting and recycling of aluminium, which is important environmentally, economically and politically.
Based on our metallurgical know-how, technology, competence and experience in casting operations, we have developed a concept for our remelt facilities that ensures our customers supplies of top quality casthouse products produced from process scrap.
We have remelting capabilities at nearly 30 different sites world-wide. All our plants remelt different alloys and products for a large variety of aluminium applications.
Top quality, efficiently produced
Process scrap and used aluminium are important metal sources, on a par with primary aluminium. Quantities of used scrap are steadily increasing due to growing aluminium volume in the recycling loop. Used scrap will, therefore, become more readily available as a material source. Through our growing network, we supply not only top quality metal products based on scrap, but can also offer our customers solutions within logistics that will contribute to reductions in transport costs. And remelting is efficient; the process uses just 5 percent of the energy required to produce the primary aluminium.
