Aluminium part of the solution

How is it possible to use more than five million kilowatts of electricity every hour and at the same time claim to be concerned about climate and the environment?

Energy

A significant portion of Hydro's aluminium is produced using renewable hydroelectric power. The company also uses natural gas, coal and nuclear energy in its production.

Emission

In addition to climate change and energy consumption, our most important environmental challenges are related to waste production, emissions and biodiversity.

Climate change

"Climate change affects us all. For aluminium as a material and Hydro as a company, the potential to help solve the greatest threat of our time far outweighs the problems we face," says Hydro's strategy director Arvid Moss.

Recycling

Forecasts point to a 75 percent overall growth in the recycling of aluminium over the next decade. Hydro aims to increase recycling volume from 260 000 tonnes in 2010 to one million tonnes in 2020.
