Extrusion

Extruding aluminium billets through dies with a force of thousands of tons creates a wide range of profiles and opens up an even larger choice of applications.
Aluminium extruded final products

Our extrusion research and development effort is directed towards our general world wide extrusion business, and serves to continuously improve our processes and the aluminium profile products we produce.

Improvements have always been the key to success and will continue to be so. This means better service, greater shape complexity and a demand for continuous improving quality combined with higher productivity and cost efficiency. Our target is to be an innovative technology partner for our customers, with in-depth competence in core areas. We emphasize a holistic approach in our work, taking full advantage of Hydro as an integrated aluminium company.

Research and development dedicated for extrusion in Hydro are split in Extrusion Competence Centre (ECC) supporting the European business and Hydro Aluminium Technology Centre (HATC) supporting Hydro’s American extrusion plants.

The units work in close collaboration with the plants – which are our customers. There is a strong focus in generating ownership of the projects in the plants to secure implementation.

The Extrusion Competence Centre (ECC) and the Hydro Aluminium Technology Centre (HATC) are dedicated towards the following competencies:

  • Extrusion process control
  • Extrusion technology
  • Die technology
  • Billet and Alloy quality
  • Extrusion applications
