(Dec. 5, 2001) In a very competitive industry, Hydro Agri has been steadily strengthening its results since our turnaround program started in 1999. Year to date 2001, we find ourselves in the top quartile of our peer group and we are on our way toward even higher levels of performance, according to Thorleif Enger, executive vice president of Hydro Agri.
During the past two weeks, Enger has given a number of presentations, summarizing the results of the ambitious Agri Turnaround program.
Compared to 1999, there have been cost reductions of more than NOK 2.7 billion (€337.5 million) and a demanning of 3,600 jobs. Production per employee is close to 3,500 tons, compared to some 2,500 tons in the mid-1990s.
"Since 1999 our agri business has been through one of the toughest turnarounds in our company's history, with a manning reduction of about 35 percent and a corresponding reduction in fixed costs. Even though the goals have been increased several times, we have outperformed even the high end of our most ambitious targets", Enger says.
