Cutting energy consumption at Sunndal
(Dec. 11, 2002) Hydro Aluminium is to close down its old Søderberg plant at Sunndal sooner than planned. This implies profitable adjustments to existing power markets, with no negative effects for Hydro Aluminium's organization or market commitments.
Hydro Aluminium has previously stated that its old Søderberg plant at Hydro Aluminium Sunndal would gradually be phased out by February 2003, the actual process having already been started in October this year.
This immediate closure over the next few working days means that the production of primary aluminium during the rest of December and in January 2003 at HA Sunndal will be reduced by about 1,400 tonnes, likewise energy requirements by about 24 GWh.
