FACTS about Hydro Aluminium in Sunndal

(Dec. 3, 2002) New Sunndal is a real lift for Hydro Aluminium as a whole, and not least for Hydro Aluminium Sunndal. The modernization has brought a sense of security both to the company and the local community.
- Hydro Aluminium Sunndal is the largest industrial company in Møre og Romsdal, western Norway. The company has produced five million tonnes primary aluminium since the first metal was tapped on 2 April 1954.
- Hydro Aluminium Sunndal is now run as an industrial estate. Activities follow the value chain, with reporting to various sectors or business units in Hydro Aluminium:
- Electrolysis produces liquid primary metal for delivery to the casthouse. Electrolysis reports to Hydro Aluminium Primary Metal.
- The casthouse currently produces extrusion ingot. A casting center for primary foundry alloys will also be built. In addition some scrap and other cold metal is remelted to utilize the surplus heat from the liquid metal. The casthouse is part of Hydro Aluminium Metal Products.
- The anode factory is part of Hydro Aluminium Carbon.
- Support functions are largely supplied by Hydro Production Partner, part of Hydro Business Partner.
- There is also a research center in the Sunndal industrial estate, which comes under Hydro Aluminium Research and Development.
- Hydro Aluminium has a central accounts center in Sunndal.
- Hycast is an international supplier of casthouse technology. Hycast, which has 32 employees, is located outside of the industrial estate.
