Aluminium innovations on display in Essen, Germany
(Aug. 25, 2004) Hydro, the leading aluminium company in Europe, will once again be a major exhibitor at the world trade fair "ALUMINIUM 2004" in Essen, Germany, underlining its strategic commitment to Europe as its home ground.
During the aluminium trade fair on 22-24 September the Hydro stand – Stand A20 – can be found in Hall 3, next to the entrance. A record number of 600 exhibitors from 37 countries will participate in the fair.
Hydro Aluminium’s commitment to Europe is shown by a significant increase in its metal capacity and alloy sales to markets, achieved through its innovative multi-sourcing system and the expansion and modernization of the Sunndal metal plant in Norway – now the largest primary aluminium plant in Europe. This plant alone will be able to supply its customers with 63,000 tonnes of foundry alloys.

Hydro Magnesium will also celebrate the expansion of its remelt capacity in Bottrop, Germany in September.
Some other Hydro innovations to be presented at the "ALUMINIUM 2004" world trade fair will be:
- New metal sheet for body applications.
- New highly ductile alloys for die-casting applications that can now be produced without the cost factor of solution annealing treatment. This means that die-cast parts can be used more economically, even in areas requiring high elongation at break – for instance in chassis or body applications.
- Energy-saving facades from extruded building systems of aluminium.
"We know that the customers require far more than just technically advanced and optimally usable products. We will continue to focus on added value – from our Customer Portal to certified quality and LME/risk management," says Jon-Harald Nilsen, President of Hydro Aluminium.
