Hydro at the Aluform Congress

(Jan. 9, 2004) Hydro is participating at the Aluform Congress from 20 to 21 January 2004 in Paris.

The Aluform Congress & Exhibition will showcase the latest forming and joining techniques used in the aluminium industry. It will also focus on new alloys and materials for transport applications, aluminium component and module design, numerical simulation as well as rapid manufacturing and forming technologies.

The congress will provide a trade show platform for the European aluminium industry, to share developments and display the latest production techniques – a technology transfer mechanism into, out of and within the European market. The exhibition will be complemented with some thirty presentations covering state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and process technologies for aluminium and its alloys.

Aluform will offer a stimulating mixture of guest speakers and presentations, giving leading aluminium companies he opportunity to present their latest technical expertise to a prestigious, international audience.

Several speakers from Hydro

From Hydro Dieter Braun, president pf Hydro's Automotive business sector and chairman of the EAA Automotive Market Group, is delivering the keynote address at the Aluform Congress with a speech entitled “Transportation - A Driving Force for Aluminium” on the opening day.

SPEAKING: Dr. Dieter Braun, president of Hydro's Automotive business sector.

The steadily growing use of aluminium is largely attributable to the metal’s success in transport applications - automotive, aviation and shipbuilding - which help to enhance or optimise mobility. At the same time, the light metal faces major challenges - greater transportation needs in an increasingly competitive global marketplace, product innovations in competing materials and increasing price pressure.

Réginald Dupuis, Automotive Strip business unit, is presenting a paper on “Aluminium Alloys for Car Body Panels: New Applications and Trends”. In Europe, outer body panels are exclusively made from alloys of the 6xxx series. Dupuis will demonstrate that it is possible and more interesting economically to use 5xxx series alloys for some outer body panel applications - especially the alloy 5182 ssf developed by Hydro Aluminium metallurgists.

On the second day, Christof Maier, Programme Manager Automotive Strip Applications, will give a presentation on “Manufacturing and Application of Aluminium Tailored Blanks for Automotive Lightweight Solutions”. He will detail the production of welded aluminium blanks and the determination of quality-critical weld properties and their influence on formability.

An exhibition is running parallel to the conferences at the “Cité des Sciences et de l`Industrie” in Paris. Hydro is presenting its comprehensive range of automotive activities, with representatives from the Automotive Strip, Structures and Precision Tubing business units present on the 24-squaremetre stand.
