(Sep. 20, 2006) At the 'ALUMINIUM 2006' trade fair in Essen, Germany, Hydro emphasizes that it is following an aggressive strategy to reposition and grow to meet future demand for aluminium.

Global demand for primary aluminium is expected to nearly double in 15 years, to approximately 60 million tonnes in 2020. Hydro is set to maintain its market share in this growing market.

“Hydro aims to establish long-term, competitive power positions to support development or protect business in the long-term perspective. This exploration of energy and metal production options is being carried out in a number of countries and regions worldwide. New primary plants will only be built in regions with competitive power prices,” states Executive Vice President Torstein Dale Sjøtveit, head of the Aluminium Metal business area in Hydro.
