Aluminium wire

Cost-efficient aluminium wire

Customers benefit from Hydro's 30 years of supplying aluminium wire and conductors. Hydro's aluminium wire is used for low, medium and high-voltage applications, designed upon customer requirements in various shapes. Aluminium wire is cost efficient, with conductivity per ton of wire higher than for any other wire material used today.

Key features

  • Low weight
  • Excellent conductor of heat and electricity
  • Very easy to form and bend
  • High corrosion resistance - longer product lifetime
  • High recycling value
  • Narrow tolerances
  • High surface quality

Product details

Hydro's 1370 alloy can improve conductivity by reducing the wire section while maintaining power-transfer performance. Aluminium wire is also available in the 6101 alloy. With aluminium, customers use less polyamide isolation around the core wire. Hydro offers large section rods, from 240mm² to 1200mm² with tolerance in diameters +/- 1%, and cast, redrawn wire. This is useful in dimensions <20 mm of diameter.

Application areas

  • Automotive and transport
  • Building and construction
  • General engineering

Extrusion

Aluminium can be extruded and shaped into a variety of tubes and profiles.

Aluminium ingot is heated and pressed through shaping tools, to make profiles for various products. Aluminium is increasingly taking over from copper as preferred metal for tubing in heat exchangers and air conditioners. There is no end to what shapes aluminium end products can take.
