It is for this reason that Hydro scores highest among aluminium companies in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) rankings.

Two thirds of the energy that Hydro uses to produce its primary aluminium comes from renewable sources.

In parallel gains in efficiency of processes have made it possible to reduce the amount of electricity needed to produce one tonne of aluminium by 33%.

Hydro ensures that all the process waste products are sorted, recycled and reused.  All scrap metal is re-melted and reused in the extrusion process.  Our anodising plants are among the most modern and clean in Europe. 

By continually improving and increasing efficiency in production processes, minimising emission and focussing clearly and consistently on environmental questions Hydro extrusion plants were among the first in the business to be certified according to ISO 14001 and the environmental management system EMAS.

With a complete ecological picture we work with our customers to produce final products that minimise the consumption of resources and are more environmentally friendly.
