Hydro Aluminium Extrusion recognises that it has a duty to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all its employees and that of all others who may be affected by its activities. The company has established a framework that promotes a healthy and safe working environment and aims to continually improve its health, environment and safety performance.

Environment

One of the major environmental advantages of aluminium is that it is recyclable, which is a characteristic that can be designed into any product, regardless of the products use. What starts life as a walkway on a bridge can, in another incarnation, become a window or curtain walling section. The properties of the recycled material are no different from the primary metal and 95% energy savings are achieved by recycling. All process scrap, even swarf, is recycled, different alloys being segregated to achieve optimum recycling economies.

Caring for the environment lies at the heart of corporate policy within the Group which is known for its proactive approach. Environmental awareness will continue to be fostered and improvements in resource use will remain a fundamental objective. We are now placing a greater focus on suppliers’ activities to ensure environmental performance is part of the selection criteria. Links established with councils and neighbours are being strengthened, whilst educational support for local schools on environmental issues is on the agenda.
