aluminium roller shutter doors

The island which is five hundred metres from the coast of Abu Dhabi is spread across 27 sq km, and eventually more than 145,000 people will call it home.

Aluroll, a leading UK manufacturer of roller garage doors and security shutters were appointed to provide the roller garage doors for the residential developments on the prestigious project.

Their range of roller doors offer not only a stylish solution for homeowners but more importantly a secure solution which fits perfectly the high level specification required for such a project.

Hydro Aluminium Extrusion were appointed to supply the mill finished aluminium extrusions for the roller doors which were then powder coated and finally foiled in a variety of wood grain finishes.

In fact 18 different sized roller doors from Aluroll’s Elite range were supplied in five different colours for the first phase of the project which used 55 tonnes of aluminium extrusion from Hydro, with 40 extrusions making up each garage.

Dave Barwick, General Manager of Aluroll says “Our Elite roller doors are used for applications where the highest level of security is required.  They are made to measure and incorporate full roller housings, intelligent safety systems and automatically lock on closure.  The doors have no handles to be tampered with and offer no leverage points for would-be intruders.”

The Elite has been tested and approved by the Loss Prevention & Certification Board (LPCB). The LPCB (which is part of BRE Global) work with insurers, government, police, designers, manufacturers, contractors and end users to develop methods by which product performance and reliability can be assessed and guaranteed.

“Quality was also an important factor on the project and letters were required from us stating that we are a British manufacturer and our products conform to British Standards.” adds Dave.

The project location required a finish a lot tougher than the standard wood grain range offered by Aluroll, due to a high level of exposure to the sun and also proximity to the sea – constituting a marine environment.

Outdoor marine projects highlight the outstanding qualities of aluminium which is resistant to corrosion, light in weight and also easy to fabricate and install.

Aluminium’s lighter weight, compared with steel, offers significant benefits, including :

• Less mass needs lower power to drive the door motor, reducing energy consumption.
• Less weight gives reduced transport costs and easier handling to the site and on site

Dave adds, “We were impressed with the support that Hydro gave us throughout the project, which ultimately resulted in working to very tight timescales.”

Colin O'Neill Hydro’s Sales Development Manager says, “Once the final order was placed the customer wanted it delivered within weeks, so we helped out as much as possible to meet time scales that were so short in the end.  Late delivery was not an option that any of us considered.”
