Aluminium fuel cooler

As a result of the increased injection pressure in the new generation of diesel engines, Hydro Aluminium Precision Tubing has developed a series of aluminium coolers to reduce the fuel temperature in the return line.

Aluminium fuel cooler

In the new generation of diesel engines, the fuel temperature in the return line has risen from approximately 80°C to 110°C. Hence, many of the plastic parts in the fuel system are not able to resist such temperatures so a way to reduce the fuel temperature in the return line has to exist.

The aluminium cooler profiles are extruded and shaped in one piece, which eliminates potential leaks and aggressive corrosion in joints. The standard alloy used for the coolers, is the long life alloy HA9048. This means no further surface protection has to be added. The coolers are also available in other alloys. The brackets used for the coolers are typically manufactured in PA66 plastic, which has many positive properties, such as the withstand the harsh car underbody environments, where the fuel cooler usually is located.

The aluminium fuel coolers are designed for easy integration in the existing fuel systems. The design is optimised on space saving and maximum heat rejection performance. Hydro aluminium fuel coolers are characterized by:

  • High performance in limited space
  • Can be integrated into fuel bundle
  • Uses existing brackets
  • Minimum re-engineering for installation
  • Standard connections such as SAE end form
  • Proven technology
  • Very cost effective solution
  • Designed to customer needs
  • Mainly for diesel fuel
  • Also applicable for other fluids

In order to support our customers as well as to develop and optimise our aluminium cooler concepts, we have established a wind tunnel. With short notice we can design and build prototypes for your application and test the performance under various conditions (oil flow, wind speed, etc.) including benchmarking. We are ready to start developments in co-operation with your company.
