
HYMESH™ is an aluminium heat exchanger concept based on an all-extruded and fin-free design. Starting point is extruded linked tubular profiles. In a first step, the interlinking webs between tubes are partially removed. Afterwards, the resulting profile is extended in a lateral direction to separate the tubes.
HYMESH™ profiles can include:
- Extruded fin (HYMESH™-fin)
- Internally enhanced tube
- Externally enhance tube
- Customised hollow profile shape
Wind tunnel testing of prototype HYMESH™ heat exchanger assembly:
Test conditions used: 100°C oil and wind speeds of 4, 8 and 11 m/sec.
A conventional tube and fin brazed radiator, designed for automotive use, was used in the trials to provide comparative data to existing state-of-art heat exchangers.
Test results:
Achieved efficiencies of over 70% of state-of-art tube-fin heat exchanger for unrefined design. Improvement in performance is expected from future design studies.
