Precision Tubing

Joining Method

In the HVACR industry, brazing and soldering has been widely used to join copper tubes (u-bend tubes fitted to hair-pin tubes) for decades.

Example of torch brazing

Today, aluminium is being increasingly used as a substitute for copper, and

  • Copper brazing and soldering techniques have been successfully applied in the mass production of all-aluminium heat exchangers
  • Flame brazing is the most widely used brazing concept and is valued due to the moderate investment costs and good flexibility for small series production
  • CAB (controlled atmosphere brazing) is used among heat exchanger producers that operate with large serial numbers.

Whereas flame brazing and soldering are widely used, some heat exchanger producers have invested in so-called CAB (controlled atmosphere brazing) equipment, but both technologies will live side by side due to their suitability in different production layouts.
