Replacing copper with aluminium – how do we do it? Visitors to the Hydro stand placed this question frequently to Hydro's technicians and salespeople at this year's Chillventa HVAC fair. Answers included new information about alloys, tube and fin specifications and components, and knowledge directly related to working with aluminum in HVAC applications, Hydro staff encouraged visitors to get information from its extensive network of collaborative companies, specialized within different areas linked to aluminium.
"Using aluminium it is not difficult – but different," says Thomas Rasmussen, application engineer for Hydro's dedicated HyVAC team. "It is important for customers, and the entire aluminium industry, to get the right guidance regarding all the steps of handling aluminium. For example: Aluminium is not aluminium. Having the right alloys is critical. This goes for having the correct drop-in solution, replacing copper, to bring customers cost and efficiency benefits, and having a corrosion-optimized design to support the heat exchanger performance."

| The aluminium flame brazing seminar at Chillventa was jointly organized with Lucas-Milhaupt. |
Hydro's stand was located near the booths of Lucas Milhaupt - a specialist on aluminium brazing – and Vulkan Lokring®, which provides mechanical connections for line sets. The location made it easier for visitors to get relevant information without much effort.
Lucas-Milhaupt and Hydro also cooperated in providing a customer seminar on fundamentals within aluminium brazing. The seminar was well attended by a worldwide audience, who posed good questions in an active session.
Aluminium line sets
At the Chillventa fair in Germany, Vulkan Lokring® introduced their new Lokring® connection, which is certified for the use of R410 in aluminium lines.
The market launch, together with the parallel introduction of Hydro's insulated line sets, showed potential customers a cost-optimized solution and a lightweight and easy-to-install product. In short, customers now have the full package to go all-aluminium.
