Aluminium tube mechanics

Aluminium tubes are easily straightened, cut, bent, punched, drilled, expanded, or end formed-just like any other tubes.

Aluminium tubes can be mechanically processed in the same way as copper or steel tubes. The same types of machines can be used and exactly the same type of technology is applicable when processing aluminium tubes as when processing tubes in other metals. Since aluminium is a softer material, and because aluminium tubes have more wall thickness, different machine settings may apply. But the material's softness usually leads to process improvements since much less force is needed to punch or re-shape aluminium.

However, when using the same machines to process aluminium and copper, it is important that tools and machines are thoroughly cleaned before switching material, so the aluminium tubes don't become contaminated with copper particles.

Hydro offer customers its expertise in these areas. We have years of experience with de-coiling, straightening or in other ways working with aluminium.
