Weight

If you have the ambition to save weight while maintaining high performance, selecting aluminium for your solar system will provide lighter collectors that are easier to install.

Aluminium has a density of 2.70 g/cm³ and copper has a density of 8.96 g/cm³.

This means Hydro can offer tubes that save up to 50% weight compared to copper tubes.

Most absorber manufacturers have already switched from copper sheets to aluminium sheets and thereby benefitted from the price and weight advantages of aluminium. The table below, demonstrates how the weight advantages also apply to the aluminium tubing and the additional weight saving potential.

Absorber weight saving potential in %, with partial or total aluminium solution:

Copper tubes with copper sheet absorber  Copper tubes with aluminium sheet absorber  Aluminium tubes with aluminium sheet absorber
Copper tubes + copper sheet Copper tubes + aluminium sheet  Aluminium tubes + aluminium sheet
 Weight of tubes  100% 100%  51%
 Weight of sheet  100%  60%  60%
  Combined
weight (tubes+sheet)
 100%  78%  56%
