Renewable energy

Hydro is a leading supplier of aluminum extruded components for the renewable energy industry and a proven single-source supplier.

Solar energy

In the U.S., we have a dedicated solar energy team and produce aluminum extrusion components for solar support structures, frames, and mounting systems. We provide a full range of products and services; technical and design assistance at the start of the project through JIT delivery of finished components.

We have been the sole supplier for some of the largest utility-scale solar projects, in the U.S. and globally, in recent years. We have experience with standard 8-, 12-, and 16-meter, and non-standard size, CSP troughs.

For both roof- and ground-mount PV solar installations, we have collaborated with energy companies, distributors, and installers to develop and manufacture lightweight custom frame and mounting components as well as extruded profiles to be used for stock shape programs.

Solar project highlights

• For a Nevada solar plant, Hydro helped develop an innovative framing solution and delivered components for 9,120 frames; JIT and on budget
• Using proven frame technology and a well-developed project management system, we provided a cost-effective solution and supplied over 450 frame sets per week for three large-scale solar plants in Spain
• From two nearby plants, we supplied frames, supports, legs, and connectors for a one-of-a-kind hybrid-solar plant in Florida; frames with sufficient torsional stiffness to withstand hurricane-force winds
• To help support both the East and West Coast operations of a leading global manufacturer of fixed PV racking systems, we supply extruded components from both our Belton, SC and Phoenix, AZ facilities

Wind power

For the wind power industry, we extruded and fabricate internal assemblies and structural components for towers and bus tube, bus bar, and electrical connectors for power distribution.

“Green” metal for “green” industries

All of our extrusions use remelt billet (primary quality metal, produced using proprietary Hydro technology, which contains more that 70% recycled content). Only 5% of the energy used in primary aluminum production is needed to remelt aluminum. And aluminum can be recycled over and over again without any loss in properties.
