The look of extruded aluminum is inherently attractive yet easily enhanced. As a by-product of the extrusion process, a corrosion-resistant film forms on the surface of the extrusion that provides a durable protective barrier to environmental, physical or chemical agents.
Finish requirements will depend on the aesthetic and functional requirements of the extruded part. For example, the visible surfaces of furniture and office components, boat railings, patio doors or automotive parts, will require the highest quality finishes. Finish quality for the under body of a truck cab will be less demanding.
Surface treatments may include
- Painting - powder or liquid coatings
- Anodizing, lacquering, enameling
- Mechanical surface treatments – wire brushing, grinding, buffing, satin finishing
- Chemical surface treatment – bright dipping, etching, chemical conversion coatings
