Hydro provides the round tube that is machined into the main body of the reel. This “porthole-extruded” tube is extruded into four quarters as it passes through a die. As the extrusion emerges from the die, the still hot aluminum fuses together again to create the tube’s distinctive shape. This critical fusion must meet Penn Reels' high metallurgical standards for precision and consistency.

The end caps, spool and other aluminum parts are anodized in Penn Reels’ classic gold before shipping to enthusiasts around the world.

Aluminum is ideal for reels used in big-game fishing. It resists saltwater corrosion, and is lightweight, yet strong enough to withstand an angry, world record marlin on the line. In fact, Penn Reels have been used for more International Game Fish Association world record catches than any other reels.
