In the distance, you spot a giant sailfish breeching. Time stands still as you work the fish allowing it to run. You begin to reel in the line. Hours seem like minutes when a crewman grabs the extruded aluminum shaft of an eight-foot gaff from O&H Mfg./Auto Gaff Co.
The sailfish flies past inches from the boat as the crewman sinks the gaff hook allowing the fish to soar in the wind trailing the gaff rope behind. A short time later, the deck is decorated with a 150-pound, eight-foot sailfish. Your crewman is grinning like a kid in a wading pool. He’s still holding that aluminum gaff while you reach for a cold drink and a place to rest your aching arms.
Since 1959, H & H Lure has produced high quality fishing tackle for the global market, including more spinner baits than anyone else. As part of their vast array of products, H&H Lure’s sister company, O&H Mfg./Auto Gaff Co., manufactures aluminum gaffs, push-poles, boat hooks, and rig hooks. For these and other specialty fishing products, Hydro delivers high-quality extruded aluminum tubing and connectors for the shafts.
H & H Lure and O&H Mfg./Auto Gaff Co. chose aluminum because of its high corrosion resistance, especially in salt water. O&H Mfg./Auto Gaff Co. gaffs range from one foot to 12 feet long. Their largest gaff sports a 1.5 inch diameter shaft from Hydro that easily handles a sailfish or even an 800-pound marlin. They make their large gaffs with a detachable hook, where the hook is attached to a rope. This allows you to gaff the fish without being pulled overboard.
Long-Term Relationship builds trust, strengthens partnership
Hydro has worked with H & H Lure and O&H Mfg./Auto Gaff Co. for more than 15 years. In that time, we have demonstrated our ability to meet unusual stocking requirements where orders can be extremely large for a big box store stocking up for a season. And where the orders may come in one at a time as part of a drop ship service for small online retailers. H & H Lure and O&H Mfg./Auto Gaff Co. buy their extruded aluminum components in quantities sufficient to keep their inventory available to fill orders no matter how they come in. The companies challenge Hydro’s St. Augustine facilities for its full range of capabilities including:
• Drawn Tubing that is anodized and powder coated
• Extruded pipe that has to be fabricated and powder coated
• Machined components for connectors
• Quick turnaround on deliveries
Cajun Marsh Anchor secures Hydro’s drawn tubing connection
O&H Mfg./Auto Gaff Co. is the manufacturer of the famed Cajun Marsh Anchor. These instruments look similar to a javelin with a rope attached. The idea is to throw the anchor into the soft bottom of a shallow lake or bay so that the shaft sinks into the bottom deep enough to become anchored. The Cajun Marsh Anchor has become a favorite of fisherman with boats up to 25 feet long. They also are used to anchor jet skis and kayaks. The anchors are easy to sink into the bottom and to retrieve.
Recycled aluminum holds up to the elements
In addition to aluminum’s ability to stand up to the corrosive effects of salt water, H & H Lure and O&H Mfg./Auto Gaff Co. chose aluminum as a “green metal.” They place a high value on receiving extruded tube components from Hydro that contain more than 70% recycled aluminum.
H & H Lure and O&H Mfg./Auto Gaff Co. are family owned. They are based out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where they manufacture quality products and accessories for both freshwater and saltwater applications. They distribute products globally. Learn more at www.hhlure.com.
