The company has been highly successful in Europe with more than 100 solar power plants installed. When the company opened its North American operations in Hayward, California, it turned to Hydro to extrude components for the racking system.

Selecting Hydro was an easy decision, according to Ya-Sin Norrise, an onsite project manager with Terrafix Solarpark. “We had a relationship with Hydro in Denmark and knew they already produced the product we needed,” he said.

For Terrafix Solarpark projects in the western states, Hydro’s Phoenix operations extrude two components for the solar panel racking system. The extrusions are made from 6063 T6 alloy. This alloy is particularly suited to extrusions with multi-void hollows like the Terrafix Solarpark design.

For projects in the eastern half of the U.S., Hydro extrudes the two components from our Belton, South Carolina operations. The plants use their eight- and ten-inch presses to extrude the two components. The extrusions are cut-to-length and shipped to the job site ready for installation.

“We work on both coasts, so it helps us that Hydro has multiple plants to serve our needs,” said Norrise.

By extruding components near the Terrafix Solarpark projects, Hydro reduces shipping costs and can handle larger production volumes when necessary.

The Terrafix Solarpark racking system offers several advantages over conventional solar panel designs. Terrafix Solarpark uses the company’s patented screw foundation that allows for an environmentally friendly installation without the use of concrete. The foundation screws are custom made to comply with soil, slope and other conditions of the jobsite. The racking system itself provides the necessary flexibility to conform to the slope of the land to avoid a flat looking installation.

In addition to ground installations, Terrafix Solarpark designs and manufactures racking systems for roof top solar panel projects. The company also supplies solar panel racking systems to other installers. The company provides monitoring and maintenance services for the installed projects.
