Mechanical treatment
Special surface finishes can be achieved by mechanical treatment such as polishing and brushing. These methods remove all small faults on the surface, give a uniform surface and make further treatment possible to give a reflective or decorative surface.

Chemical surface treatment
Among chemical surface treatment methods you find etching, brightening, cromating, plating with copper, nickel, silver etc. Etching gives a greyish surface and is used as a pre-treatment before anodising or powder coating. Cromating is used as pre-treatment before powder coating and as surface treatment for components that require good electrical conductivity. Altisering is an environment friendly substitute for cromating. Chemical polishing baths give mirror finish. Plating with copper, nickel, silver, tin are surface treatment methods that provide good soldering, reflective and conductivity properties for both electricity and heat.
