
A ‘foundation’ consisting of a floating concrete caisson provides sufficient weight and stability so that the house will not move in rough weather. To get the best results the house should obviously be located in a fairly sheltered position.
Much of them original steel design has been replaced with aluminium. Aluminium extrusions are now being used in the frame side members, glazing, screen supports and railings. Weight, resistance to corrosion and aesthetics are the main arguments for using aluminium in the floating houses.
