As the only coachbuilder in Norway, Vest-Busscar is one of Scandinavias leading suppliers of buses and coaches. The company has developed an approach based on aluminium estrusions with the emphasis on improved safety and more efficient production that inc

The company has a complete range of sizes are available from minibuses and mediumsize buses to town buses and coaches. Customised coachwork is built onto chassis from companies like Volvo and Scania.
Today Vest has three basic models, the Center town bus, the Contrast coach and the smaller Midline. The fittings, location of doors, length and chassis design of each can be customised. Of a bus‘s normal kerb weight of 11 tons, 15 per cent is components made of aluminium or aluminium extrusions. An increasing number of extrusions are used for special designs aimed at reducing the need for machining, facilitating installation and improving performance.
Built onto the bus’s steel frame, the aluminium extrusions in the arches and side beams of the roof create a cage. The extrusions low weight, high strength and good deformation properties combine to create a shield that meets the safety requirements that apply should a bus roll over. The low weight of the roof also increases the bus’s stability and improves road holding and handling characteristics. Aluminium extrusions provide an optimal mix of weight, centre of gravity, fuel consumption and deformation.
Nearly 50 different extrusions are used in Vest’s products and, apart from the roof, are to be found as fasteners, lighting ducts, hinges, seat mountings, and lock and assembly strips.
