Alubox System AB of Uddevalla, Sweden has developed a system of fittings for cars and vans based on aluminium extrusions. Weighing less than equivalent steel products means greater load capacity and lower fuel costs.
Alubox has produced fittings systems for service vehicles since the middle of the 90s. Earlier products, which were made of flanged sheet aluminium, have now been replaced by a new range – Alubox Pro – made of aluminium extrusions.
Using extrusions has enabled Alubox to create a modular system with integral flexibility. They have minimised the number of components at the same time as the functions built into the extrusions cut the amount of machining required thus improving production efficiency.
The aluminium extrusions have also given the fittings a slimmer, rounder and more elegant design. Gone are the sharp, flanged sheet metal corners.
For the most common service vehicles, Alubox has developed standard products but the bulk of those sold are customised. Most products are delivered ready assembled but plans are afoot for flat-pack kits.
Great effort has been put into optimising the relationship between weight and strength, the functions and the design. In certain respects The extrusion technique is stretched the limits with AluBox demands for close tolerances! Alubox Pro is a very stable system with rounded shapes and attractive surfaces as well as vibration-proof boxes on bearings.
