Aluminium is a light metal, which can obtain high strength. Furthermore, aluminium possesses a number of qualities, which may often be incorporated in each profile solution and so contribute to an even better and more competitive product.
This applies for low weight & high strength, mouldability, good electrical & thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance and a high degree of design freedom.
Aluminium is the metal of most common occurence in nature, about 8% of the earth's crust consists of aluminium compounds. Aluminium oxide is extracted from the type of clay called bauxite and through an electrochemical process primary aluminium is extracted.
Aluminium is a very light metal with a density of only 2.7 kg/dm³, which is only one third of the density of steel. Even so aluminium may obtain high strenght by alloying primary aluminium with other types of metal.
Finally, aluminium has an enormous recycling advantage. Only 5% of the energy used for the extraction of primary aluminium is used for recycling aluminium. Recycled aluminium has the same characteristics and the same quality as primary aluminium.
