Extrusion

Over the years we have created many thousand die designs, and our die storage presently holds more than 13,000 active, special dies.

The heart of our plant is our two profile presses. The presses working with a pressure of 1,600 tons and 2,200 tons respectively enables us to manufacture profiles in sizes for most needs.

Furthermore, we are able to supply you with profiles in other dimensions by means of our close cooperation with other Hydro plants in Europe.

Extrusion is enabled by heating the extrusion ingot (raw aluminium) to 480 - 520ºC. The heated and softened metal is pressed into the container of the press and up against the die by a hydraulic ram. The ram pressure is increased gradually. The only way out is through the die opening.

The extrusion die is a relatively cheap investment.

For multi-cavity dies several identical profiles are pressed in the same die. The number of cavities in a die depends on the size of the profile.

The die is made from high temperature resistant steel, and the die opening is made by wire erosion.

All our dies are stored in a fully automatic and climatic die storage with room for 17,000 different dies. This storage ensures that the dies are protected in the best way and this is the basis for  high quality.
