The TMS is the world's leading association of experts in mineral and ore mining, metal science and materials science. She appoints Schneider at her annual conference in Orlando, Florida, March 11-15.

Schneider has been a member of the company for 18 years and is currently the Vice President. "I am honored to serve TMS as an international member in this position," said Schneider, who will be the first non-American president in TMS history.

Wolfgang Schneider (60) has been a professor of metallurgy at the Technical University of Berlin for many years. There he had earned his degree as a graduate engineer and then did his doctorate in metallurgy. In his academic career, he has published more than 140 specialist articles and holds nine patents as an inventor.

Schneider has already taken on many functions at the TMS and also served in the Presidium, for example as head of the light metal division from 2007 to 2010 and 2003-2006 in the area of member development. He has served in many other TMS functions since 1997. These include: Chair in the Foundry Technology Symposium, Chair in the Aluminum Committee, Member in the Strategic Advisory Board and in the Nomination Committee. & Nbsp;

Schneider has received several awards for his contributions to research from the TMS, including the Light Metals Award 1990 and 1995.

Schneider also participated in a number of other associations, for example in the German Society for Materials Science (DGM) and the Association of German Foundry Professionals VDG.

Wolfgang Schneider will start as TMS President at the banquet of the annual TMS-AIME awards ceremony on Tuesday, March 13, 2012.
