The Municipality of Paragominas and Hydro are carrying out, throughout August, a series of workshops and lives with the aim of helping to qualify the Social Assistance teams in Paragominas about early childhood. In 2021, the Ministry of Citizenship established August as the month of Early Childhood with the purpose of ensuring that children, from gestation to six years of age, fully develop their intellectual and cognitive capacities. On the 24th, Children's Day is also celebrated.

Focused on the implementation of public policies aimed at people in social vulnerability, the Viver Cidadania program has been offering workshops with specialists in Pedagogy, Psychology, Pediatrics and Law. The target audience of the actions are the professionals who work at the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS), at the Specialized Reference Center for Social Assistance (CREAS), Shelters and other employees of the Municipal Secretariat for Social Assistance (SEMAS) of Paragominas ( PAN).

The live “The importance of playing for the development of Early Childhood'', which is part of a series of activities related to Childhood Month organized by the Municipality of Paragominas, had the participation of the Viver Cidadania Program. The online event was made available to visitors of the Early Childhood Program/SEMAS, technicians from the municipal departments of Education, Culture, Health and representatives of the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents of Paragominas.

To strengthen the relationship between Hydro and the social assistance services teams, a visit was made to the Municipal Social Assistance units with the presence of Hydro's industrial director, Evilmar da Fonseca. Also present were the Planning Secretary, Anderson Cerceau, and the Social Welfare Secretary, Amanda Purger.

“Partnerships like Hydro, with the Viver Cidadania Program, are extremely important to support our social development work. Preparing our servers, so that we can achieve our goals, is an investment of unquestionable value in several aspects”, says Amanda Purger.

“The actions to support the month of early childhood reinforce Hydro's position, through the Viver Cidadania program, in contributing to the qualification of social assistance teams in Paragominas in serving the population in vulnerable situations. With the visit of the industrial director of Mineração Paragominas to social assistance services in the municipality, we will also intensify our understanding of Semas' services in Paragominas”, says Luana Carvalhosa, senior manager of Sustainability and Social Programs at Hydro.

Corporate social responsibility

In recent years, Hydro has restructured its private social investment strategy, based on a transparent, respectful and equal dialogue with all interested parties. This strategy is guided by 3 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 4, quality education; SDG 8, decent work and economic growth; and SDG 16, peace, justice and institutions.

In Pará, the scope is in the seven municipalities where the company operates: Barcarena, Abaetetuba, Moju, Acará, Tomé-Açu, Ipixuna do Pará and Paragominas. In March 2021, Hydro released the balance of its performance. In 2020 alone, even in times of pandemic, and in online format, more than 23 thousand people were benefited.
