The Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) is considered by many to be the world's most important measuring instrument for corporate sustainability. Investors and other analysts who study corporate non-financial performance use the DJSI as a key brand.

Hydro is the only aluminum company in the DJSI World Index that contains the top 10 percent in every industry.

Hydro received top marks for reporting on risk and crisis management, its ethical principles, transparency, environmental policy and management, and its strategy on biodiversity and climate.

Important scale

"We see the DJSI as an important yardstick for us. It confirms that we are on the right track and gives us information about areas in which we can improve even further," says Kirsten M. Hovi, who is responsible for Hydro’s non-financial reporting.

The aluminum company Alcoa is listed in the DJSI for North America, while Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton are listed in the DJSI World Index as a mining company.

Hydro has appeared on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index lists every year since they were first created in 1999.
