Hydro Aluminium Gießerei Rackwitz

Rackwitz is located in Saxonia in the Eastern part of Germany, 15 km outside the city of Leipzig. The plant is currently expanding its operations by construction of a new HyForge production line with the capacity of 25.000 tons per year. These products will be provided to customers who use them for forging automotive components. The new production line will start operation in 2023.

Hydro Aluminium Gießerei Rackwitz is committed to a more sustainable future. Our purpose is to create more viable societies by developing natural resources into products and solutions in innovative and efficient ways. The plant has a long experience in recycling of aluminium scrap and casting of high-quality products for the automotive sector.

We have been committed to recycling aluminium since decades and recycle around 85.000 tons per year, including 20.000 tons of end-of-life scrap which have already spent one life in an application in automotive, building & construction or general engineering.

Recycled aluminium is produced using only 5% of the energy required for primary aluminium production – without any compromises in quality. With our high share of recycling we are able to offer high quality aluminium products with a very low CO2 footprint. The HyForge products produced on the new line will have a certified CO2 footprint below a quarter of worldwide industry average for aluminium production.

2 melting furnaces, 3 casting furnaces, vertical casting machine with casting tables for: Ø152mm, Ø178mm, Ø203 mm, Ø228mm, Ø254mm, Ø305mm and Ø382, continuous homogenizer, batch homogenizer, ultrasonic testing, saw and packaging station

Equipment HyForge

Twin-chamber melting furnace, 2 casting furnaces, horizontal casting machine for diameters from 42 mm to 110 mm, ultrasonic testing, scalping machine, saw and packaging station

Certification

ISO-certified according to ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 50001 – the management systems for quality (ISO 9001), occupational health and safety (ISO 45001), environment (ISO 14001) and energy (ISO 50001) as well as according to the performance standard of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) in sustainable production, procurement and administration of aluminium.

Hydro Aluminium Rackwitz produces extrusion ingots in alloys 6060, 6061, 6082, 6005 for building and construction, transport, industry and automotive applications.
