Meet Mario: production manager in Uphusen
Mario Koch has been working at the Uphusen extrusion plant for over 30 years. As a production manager, he works with many departments. In this interview, he reveals to us what he values about his work and why Hydro in Uphusen is a first-class employer for him.
How long have you been working at Hydro and what was your career like?
I have been with the company for 31 years. I started out as press operator and now I work as production manager. In my position, I am responsible for our two aluminum extrusion presses, internal transport, die preparation, die technology, further processing, packaging, and also commercial training.
What makes the Uphusen location special for you?
I just enjoy coming to work every day. The environment here is very familiar and it is not uncommon to have been with the company for more than 30 years. We also have many young employees who are a breath of fresh air for the company. You know each other, appreciate each other and sometimes joke with each other. At the plant, we maintain an open-minded interaction with one another and the hierarchies are flat - everyone can contribute ideas. It is also important to me that we approach and solve challenges as a team and simply have fun at work together.
Why should young talents start their career in Uphusen?
Aluminum is very versatile and so is the needs of our customers. Every day brings new challenges in front of which our talents can grow personally. We challenge and promote our talents. Everyone has the chance to develop beyond their own position. In addition to our business, we do a lot for our employees. Company parties, a sophisticated health promotion program, such as job bike and company fitness, or a “gardener's break” bring us together as a company. We create an environment in which we can achieve a lot together, but where everyone is allowed to be human and is seen as a complete human being.
