The press shop is located in Cacém near the Portuguese capital Lisbon and has approximately 170 employees.

The company, which is known in the market under the name Portalex, has felt the downturn in the Portuguese market and has been struggling increasingly in recent years. The company owns two extrusion presses, a remelting plant and several processing plants.

Portalex is the second plant that Bavaria Industriekapital has acquired from Hydro over the past three years. The first was the Inasa rolling mill near Pamplona in Spain.

Hydro has owned the Portuguese plant since 1995, when Hydro acquired the company from the UK-based company Caradon Plc.
