In an area of around 20,000 square meters, the recycling plant will double the annual recycling capacity at the plant to around 100,000 tons and will be able to process a wide variety of can scrap.

“We are installing world-leading technology for sorting used products, making us a better recycler. The new plant is designed for 50,000 tonnes of used beverage cans per year, which makes us a larger recycler and a greener company. Because with aluminum recycling, we save 95 percent of the energy that the one-time production of aluminum requires and give the resource aluminum a new life, ”said CEO Kjetil Ebbesberg, head of the Rolled Products business area.

Ebbesberg added: "In addition to the UBC recycling plant, we are currently strengthening our magical aluminum triangle Grevenbroich-Rheinwerk-Alunorf with the € 130 million investment in a new plant for vehicle body panels in Greven-broich and through Expansion of the production capacity in our Alunorf subsidiary in Neuss, where Hydro, together with our partner Novelis, has invested more than 80 million euros in the capacity expansion. ”

The new UBC line will significantly improve Hydro's competitive position in the beverage beverage market.

Guests of honor at the ceremony, headed by Federal Minister Hermann Gröhe, praised Hydro's commitment to Germany, especially NRW and the Rhine district of Neuss, as an industrial location.

The recycling plant should be completed in early 2016. Hydro will create around 40 new jobs with it.
