By tracking every step, we can document our sustainability practices and make them transparent.
Our goal is to create a better life quality by transforming natural resources into products and services in an innovative and efficient way. This goes hand in hand with a clear strategic direction. First and foremost, we want to strengthen our position in low carbon aluminium and grow in the areas of energy and recycling. In doing so, we are building on 3 pillars:
We consider it our responsibility to minimise the footprint of our aluminium profiles during production and an opportunity to maximise the benefits of our products during use - "30 by 2030" - calls for a 30% reduction of our own CO2 emissions at our Benelux sites by 2030.
We have our own recycling units and thus create a basis for the circular economy. The production of primary aluminium is very energy-intensive, but recycling aluminium requires only 5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminium. In the Benelux we have two hydro-recycling plants: in Ghlin (B) and in Drunen (NL). Both sites, like all Hydro Extrusions Benelux plants, are certified to the ASI Performance Standard.
Hydro RESTORE is our aluminium assortment made from recycled pre-consumer scrap, recycled post-consumer scrap and primary aluminium. Hydro RESTORE is one of Hydro's sustainable alternatives and is manufactured in our own recycling facilities. By collecting and recycling the scrap directly at source, our customers receive the best service and flexibility and contribute to the local economy.
Hydro RESTORE in Benelux
Hydro REDUXA is our range of low carbon aluminium. By using renewable energy sources such as hydropower, we reduce the CO2 footprint per kg of aluminium to less than a quarter of the global average. The result is aluminium with one of the lowest CO2 footprints on the market.
All products have an impact on the environment, starting with the extraction of the material, through production, transport, use, disposal and recycling. Hydro EcoDesign can help you develop products with higher functionality and a lower environmental footprint.
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is a global non-profit organisation with the aim of improving sustainability throughout the aluminium value chain. ASI has developed an independent certification system for responsible aluminium production to ensure that sustainability and human rights are increasingly taken into account in the production, use and recycling of aluminium.

Every material has a footprint, including aluminium. To gain an insight into the environmental impact of our products, we have had a life cycle assessment prepared. On the one hand, the life cycle assessment is intended to optimise our (production) processes. On the other hand, we want to be transparent and give our customers accurate and individual information about the CO2 emissions of their products.
