Meet Tony Dodson: Your contribution matters

Every day, Tony Dodson demonstrates care far beyond the expectations of his role as Director of Human Resources in Extrusion North America (ENA). He is described as compassionate and empathetic, showing genuine concern and care for those around him.
Each year Hydro asks employees to nominate colleagues who go the extra mile for the annual Hydro People that Matter Award. The nominations are based on efforts that reflect Hydro’s values of Care, Courage and Collaboration in or outside the workplace.
Tony was nominated for his above and beyond efforts advocating for diversity, inclusion and belonging. His contribution to the improvement of the professional network within ENA is described as profound and impactful.

Can you describe what receiving this award means to you?
Receiving the Hydro People that Matter Award from my colleagues is a humbling experience. It means that my colleagues see me and respect, not only who I am, but also the gifts and talents I bring to the table.
You recently visited Oslo as one of six People that Matter Award recipients, would you like to share any reflections after your trip?
As I reflect on my trip to Oslo for the Hydro People that Matter Award, I’m reminded of our humanity as a company, the services of our people, and the honor and privilege I enjoyed as a recipient of this prestigious recognition.
You had quite the packed itinerary, did any events stand out to you?
Attending the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony was an indescribable experience. I was beaming with wonderment and excitement just to be in the number. To hear the words of Narges Mohammadi, this year’s laureate, spoken from the lips of her 17 year old twins was both powerful and riveting. Also, learning that Hydro is a main sponsor of the Nobel Peace Center was a revelation. I had a visceral reaction while touring the Center, and I felt the spirits of the previous laureates who were ordinary, but impactful people who did extraordinary work. Without a doubt, I have never been prouder to be a Hydro employee!
Any key takeaways from meeting your fellow award recipients?
I still reflect fondly on the unbreakable bond that I shared with my fellow recipients from Brazil, Germany, Norway, India and the United Kingdom. We built lifelong relationships and the spirit of our group was palpable. Hydro brought a diverse group of people together from different walks of life to prove that we have more in common than that which separates us. Thank you for this memory of a lifetime. It was an honor and privilege to represent our business and work locations, and I hope we made you proud.
Which of Hydro’s values mean the most to you and why?
The Hydro Care value means the most to me. How we Care demonstrates our heart for our people, products, processes and purpose.
How would you describe our company culture?
Hydro is a global family committed to creating a more viable society and leading the way toward a more sustainable future. We are teachable, realizing that we are not perfect, and we need others to see our blind spots.
