Typical applications for structural tubing include handrails, highway and bridge rail, awning supports, fence posts, sign structures, lighting applications, electrical conduit and irrigation systems.

In comparison to seamless tubing, structural tubing extrusions contain multiple weld seams that run down their length and may need to be taken into consideration for certain applications. Weld seam locations may be noticeable after anodizing.

Our structural pipe and tube product line includes:

  • Square and rectangular tube up to 11.5” circle size
  • Structural pipe and tube to 8.625” OD
  • Thin wall superior quality and construction tube
  • Structural custom hollow shapes
  • Mine and irrigation pipe with Victaulic groove option
  • Electrical bus conductor pipe and tube

Aluminum tubing is available in square, rectangular and round tubes in a range of sizes based on the outside dimensions. The tubing’s strength depends upon the strength of the alloy used, the wall thickness and the size. The larger the tube’s diameter, the less pressure it can tolerate.

Structural tubing is commonly extruded from 6061 alloy; however, it can also be extruded in high-strength 2024 and 7075 alloys. We offer custom aluminum shape extrusion using our expertise and quality aluminum alloy composition capabilities to meet your specific needs.

The all-purpose 6061 alloy contains less copper and more silicon, making it stronger than 6063 tubing at 45,000psi tensile strength and 40,000psi yield strength. 6061 aluminum is used extensively as a structural construction material, most commonly in the manufacture of automotive components and is widely used for all types of fabrication projects where light weight and corrosion resistance is a primary concern.

6063 alloy is a lower-strength choice for structural applications with a tensile strength of 27,000psi and yield strength of 32,000psi. It’s generally produced in sizes that accommodate thinner wall design and features better resistance to corrosion and better finishing qualities than 6061 alloy (it looks good as-is). 6063 aluminum tubing is easy to weld, anodize, cut and machine. It is also one of the most joinable alloys available, and is an excellent choice for in gates, handrails, frame work, support columns, protective barriers, fencing, racks and trailers.

Hydro Extrusion excels at project management and sales support with comprehensive fabricating services, advanced painting and anodizing capabilities, order coordination, and much more. With our wealth of experience, we are able to offer a full range of profiles, fabrication and assembly services for truck trailers and equipment, handrails, ladders and framing structures of all types, including alternative fuel storage systems.

We are eager to show you why we should be your key structural aluminum tubing supplier.
