We operate 23 plants and 65 extrusions presses with the industry’s broadest product capabilities in press sizes and tonnages (direct and indirect extrusion), alloy selection, circle sizes, profile types and “green” billet. Our facilities are certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and feature in-house custom die-making facilities.

Our in-house facilities for melting, casting and metal treatment guarantee billet availability and ensure that we can meet our customers’ delivery needs for their specialized products.

What is Custom Extrusion?

The process of extruding aluminum is very similar to the way a pasta machine creates shaped pasta, such as macaroni or rigatoni. Pasta dough is pushed through a specially shaped die and takes on the shape of the die.

Extrusion is one of the most widely used processes for forming metal. A metal die is designed to precisely match the profile of the particular shape you need for your specific application. Next, a heated and softened aluminum billet is pushed through the die with a hydraulic ram at a force which can exceed 6,000 tons and exits the container in the desired shape.

Like pasta, inserts can be added to dies to form hollows, voids, grooves, channels and other openings. The resulting extruded aluminum profile will feature all of the intricate characteristics.
