Aluminum is light. It reduces energy consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases when it is used in transportation. It is 100 percent renewable. Recycling it requires only 5% of the energy needed to produce the metal the first time. And aluminum lasts. Its strength, flexibility and longevity makes it a sustainable material that makes products last generations.
Carbon neutral by 2020
We always seek to contribute to stable, healthy communities where we operate. Our people are our most valued asset. And at the core of all our activities: Innovation. At Hydro we continuously develop new ways of producing and using aluminum to build more viable societies – and to deal with one of the greatest challenges of our time: climate change.
Safe and efficient production
Producing aluminum is energy consuming. In addition to producing clean hydro power, we are applying the world's most energy-efficient production technology and regularly launching new, more climate-friendly products based on recycling and reuse. Recycling aluminum requires only 5% of the energy needed to produce the metal in the first place.
As one of the world’s largest aluminum companies, we are bound to meet challenges in our value chain from time to time. It is my goal that we always learn from our experience, always reaching for a safer and more stable production.
Through offering jobs, buying services, paying taxes and fees, and by trying to be good neighbors, we contribute to the societies to which we belong.
We make our most important contribution to a more viable society through our products and innovative solutions – how they are produced, how they are used and how some time in the future they will re-emerge as new, even better and more climate-friendly products.
