In Karmøy, Hydro operates different plants connected to the aluminium value chain. This includes producing primary aluminium, refining it into various products and distributing them.
Our largest facility in Karmøy is the plant producing primary aluminium, or liquid aluminium. The plant is one of Europe's largest integrated aluminium plants, and its energy supply comes from our hydropower plants in Røldal and Suldal.
There are three casthouses at Karmøy: one delivering extrusion ingot for profile production, another producing wire rod for high-voltage cables, and a sheet casthouse producing plates for the rolling mill. We also have a research and development center at the plant that focuses mainly on improving the production process.
