Senior Cost Accountant

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for accurately maintaining the company’s inventory and cost accounting system, including preparing, processing, analyzing, reconciling and reporting financial data.  The Senior Cost Accountant oversees, evaluates and improves costing and other financial processes to improve accuracy and timeliness of reporting. 
Core responsibilities also include providing financial analysis, supporting company-wide process improvement initiatives, and mentoring others on how to interpret and utilize financial information.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintain cost accounting system, including overseeing COGS account activities, calculating overhead rates and providing monthly COGS analysis to management
• Develop analysis of production and inventory costs 
• Prepare and disseminate routine and ad hoc financial reporting and analysis, utilizing complex spreadsheets as needed
• Interpret financial data, identify trends and opportunities, and submit reports and/or recommendations to management
• Lead monthly and annual physical inventory to ensure accurate counting and recording of inventory
• Analyzes capital expenditures, maintains capital reporting, and provides post analyses 
• Perform journal entries and preparing closing reports accurately within the month end schedule 
• Reconcile GL accounts monthly, including resolving outstanding items
• Assists in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts
• Support annual audit, liaison with operations and interface with external auditors
• Mentor employees at all levels in the organization regarding the interpretation and utilization of financial information
• Implement process improvements in alignment with the company’s and the department’s strategic goals
• Create and maintain documentation of accounting processes

Job Requirements:
• BA/BS degree in accounting or equivalent experience required
• 3 - 5 years of experience in a cost accounting or similar role
• SAP experience required
• Microsoft Dynamics AX09 experience a plus
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong knowledge of basic accounting concepts, practices and procedures
• Strong organizational skills in order to prioritize and complete work efficiently
• Ability to independently conduct research and exercise judgment when resolving issues 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to interact with all levels of personnel
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
• Motivation and persistence to complete critical tasks in a timely manner
