Functional Specialist, FICO


The role is responsible for the functional support of SAP business application within the Finance Operations Team. 

The major purpose of the role is to serve locations running SAP as the ERP platform and to participate in SAP roll-outs and upgrades by: 


  • Issue resolution on incidents and problems for the live units in HANA 
  • Service and change requests management 
  • Ensures stable business process continuation and improvements 
  • Dedicated and high focused business support during period end closing 
  • Works according to the best practices for support 
  • Performs daily tasks in the global ticketing system 


  • Provides appropriate solutions upon Business Area requirements 
  • Designs, configures, tests and trains business solutions 
  • Prepares functional designs for development 
  • Reviews and supports testing of the developer code for developments in conjunction with developers 
  • Provides application maintenance, 2nd and 3rd level production support services toward the supported live locations (customers) globally, according to the SLA's agreed 
  • Proactive system improvement proposals and initiatives 
  • Preventive business process support 
  • Close working relationship with technical / basis and authorization teams 
  • Comes up continuously with business and process related improvement ideas 
  • Provides and maintains process documentations like the problem, incident and change management 


  • Supports multiple projects and secure the handover to operations 
  • Ensures global template consistency 

Area of responsibility: SAP Finance and Project systems. 

Work Experience 

  • 6-8 years plus working with SAP in a hands-on project and support environment 
  • Experience in enterprise-level SAP projects throughout the whole life cycle with repeated and demonstrable success 
  • Expert level understanding of the SAP product suite 
  • Extensive experience with SAP configuration, including workflows, validation rules, and security controls 
  • Experience defining business requirements, writing functional design documentation 
  • Expert level experience of SAP modules and underlying architecture/design 
  • Experience in designing SAP software components 
  • Experience integrating SAP with different business systems, as well as working with integration tools 


  • Full lifecycle SAP experience in a multi-national manufacturing/logistics environment with specific understanding of manufacturing, supply chain, shop floor, commercial and finance processes and operations 


  • College or University (IT / Business Degree or equivalent) 


  • PRINCE2 is an advantage 

Functional Knowledge 

  • Expert in-depth understanding of business functions and SAP. Specific knowledge ofFI module; (GL, Asset Accounting, Credit management), Project Systems. 

Technical Knowledge 

  • Expert SAP knowledge 
  • Integration understanding 


  • Strong spoken and written English 

People Management 

  • Experience with remote/dotted line management of staff in multiple countries 
  • Strong management skills to enforce appropriate deliverable of team members 
  • Leadership quality including the ability to motivate, inspire, counsel and facilitate individuals and teams to take responsibility and accountability for the goals will be an added advantage. 

Project Management 

  • SAP implementation experience in a multinational environment - see functional knowledge above 

Change Management 

  • People Change Management experience as part of ERP implementation at a location. 
  • Knowledge of Change management approaches and techniques 
  • Formal consulting skills
